Everyone chases that golden hour glow in fall and rightly so, it’s magic. But here’s what 18 years in this business taught me: book your ceremony 2 hours before sunset, not 30 minutes. You want time to actually live in that light for photos, toasts, and dancing not just catch it as the sun drops.
Fall is the flirtiest season where it’s gorgeous one day, windy and 45°F the next. We always tell our brides: have a Plan B that doesn’t feel like a consolation prize. A tented backup or a gorgeous indoor alternative should feel like the plan, not the backup.
Stop fighting the season. Lean all the way in and don’t be the bride who tries to force peonies in October ends up paying triple and getting disappointed. Work with what’s blooming, not against it.
Blankets aren’t just cute Pinterest props, they’re the difference between guests who stay for the last dance and guests who leave at 9pm freezing. Same with a hot c***r or spiked cocoa station. Comfort = a longer, better party.
Days get short fast in October and November. I’ve seen too many couples lose their reception’s natural light because nobody accounted for a 5:30pm sunset. Build your timeline backward from sunset, not forward from ceremony start.
Fall weddings have this bittersweet, cozy intimacy with falling leaves, the smell of woodsmoke, that ‘ending of a chapter, beginning of another’ feeling. Lean into that in your vows, your toasts, your décor. Don’t fight the season’s mood, it’s already doing half your storytelling for you.
