This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we're shining a zesty spotlight on ingredients that have traveled far and wide to delight taste buds around the world—ginger, garlic, and lemongrass. These humble heroes may look simple, but their cultural significance is anything but ordinary.

Ginger: Spicy, warming, and oh-so-soothing, ginger has been prized for centuries across Asia for its health benefits and bold flavor. Originating in Southeast Asia, specifically in the region that encompasses modern-day China and India, ginger quickly found its place as a valuable commodity in culinary and medicinal practices throughout the continent. From fiery stir-fries to comforting teas, it’s the MVP (Most Valuable Plant) in our hearts.

Garlic: This aromatic gem has long been a staple in countless AAPI kitchens, infusing pots, pans, and memories with the robust depth it brings to every dish. Its origin traces back to Central Asia, where it was domesticated during the Neolithic period.
