🌸✨ Obon Festival = culture + community + sustainability! ✨🌸

This year we served meals on 400+ reusable plates & bowls 🥢🍲 and, with the amazing crew from the California Conservation Corps – Fortuna Center , we diverted 100+ lbs of compost from landfill to our Local Worm Guy 🐛🌱.

Huge love to HAPI (Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity) and coordinator Alex for bringing together such a thoughtful, joyful festival that honors ancestors while caring for our future. 💮🥁💚

Obon reminds us: when we celebrate together, we can also take care of the Earth 🌎💫

Earn $75–$150 for your organization while helping Humboldt go zero waste at North Country Fair! 🌿♻️

We’re calling on local nonprofits, school clubs, student orgs, scout troops, teams, and crews to step up and join the Zero Waste Volunteer Crew—powered by Bright and Green & Harper Lacey.

✅ Bring a group of 5–10 volunteers
✅ Or cover 15–30 hours of shifts
✅ And earn a $75–$150 stipend for your organization!
🧃 Snacks, drinks, and rest areas included!

🌎 What you’ll do:
🔄 Help monitor compost, recycling, and refill stations
💬 Educate guests on sorting waste and local systems (Local Worm Guy, Hambro, Full Cycle!)

At the Arcata Farmers Market, Locovor stands out for more than just great flavor — Chef James Taylor brings over 15 years of culinary expertise and a teacher’s heart. His seasonal, Humboldt-sourced dishes are crafted to inspire, and his cooking classes and chef demonstrations connect people directly to the farmers and ingredients behind each bite.

Last weekend, James served 100+ breakfast sandwiches on Bright and Green reusable dishware, pairing fresh, local food with a commitment to a reusable future.

Every Saturday, waste is being radically reduced — with a bold shift to reusables.

Thanks to the leadership of the North Coast Growers’ Association (NCGA), the Arcata Plaza has become a model for what’s possible when community events ditch disposables. This isn’t just a feel-good moment — it’s a real systems change, and it’s setting a new standard for events across Humboldt and beyond. 🙌

🌿✨ Bright and Green at Fairy Fest! ✨🌿
This year’s Fairy Fest was full of sparkle, music, magic—and a whole lot less waste thanks to reusable serviceware and our hardworking Waste Reduction Management team! 🧚‍♀️💚

Bright and Green provided reusable dishware to food vendors and set up waste stations across the plaza to keep compost, recycling, and landfill sorted right. Our team was on the ground all day making sure things ran smoothly—and when bins filled up, they were hauled to a central sorting station for a second round of careful sorting and contamination checks. 💪

💫 Special shoutout to Maddy, now in their second year with us, who helped lead waste station setup, monitored bins throughout the day, hauled heavy loads, and stayed to help break everything down. Thank you, Maddy!

Events like Fairy Fest prove that with the right systems, zero waste is totally possible—and beautiful. 🌈🌍
