If you dream of eloping in the desert, then you need to check out Moab, Utah! From its beautiful canyon sunsets, to its towering arches, the dark skies for stargazing, the off-road trails, and amazing hiking. It’s one of our favorite places to visit, and it could be the perfect place for your elopement!

P.S. Can’t decide between desert and mountains? Moab is less than 3 hours from the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Consider a 2-day elopement and you can visit the mountains AND the desert for your elopement!

8 reasons to elope in Colorado in July

July is one of our favorite months to elope in Colorado! This is when summer really kicks off in the mountains.

1. Wildflowers
July is the best month to elope in Colorado if you imagine being surrounded by wildflowers. You can find wildflowers all over the mountains, but the locations with the best wildflowers are Crested Butte and Ouray. Always be sure to stay on trail and avoid stepping on wildflowers!

2. Green foliage
In addition to wildflowers blooming, the grasses, trees, and other plants will also be thriving in July.

3. Flowing waterfalls
With so much snowmelt happening at high elevations, the waterfalls in July are even more impressive. The best locations for seeing waterfalls are Crested Butte, Ouray, and Telluride.

4. Full alpine lakes
Like waterfalls, the water levels in alpine lakes will be at their fullest in July. This is especially important for some alpine lakes that slowly drain throughout the summer and can be empty by fall! The best locations for alpine lakes are Buena Vista, Estes Park, and Ouray.

5. Open hiking trails
By July, you’ll have your pick of hiking trails in Colorado. By then, most of the mud from the spring will have dried up, and most of the snow will be melted.

6. Open off-road trails
We always suggest that couples who want to off-road on their elopement day wait until mid-July. By then, even the most remote trails should be open. The best locations for off-roading are Buena Vista, Crested Butte, Ouray, and Telluride.

7. Long days
With an average of 15 hours of daylight in the Colorado mountains, you’ll have plenty of time for adventure. The early sunrises and late sunsets also give you a better chance of having locations to yourself.

8. Great stargazing
If you elope in an area without light pollution, July is the perfect month for stargazing. And if you choose a date in the second half of July, you can even experience the beginning of the Perseid Meteor Shower.

Some waterfalls are just built different. While many of them start to dwindle late in the season, this elopement during the peak of fall color was still roaring down into the turquoise pool.

Hiring an elopement photographer who not only knows the coolest locations but also knows what time of year is best to visit them could save you some heartbreak. So hire local and rest assured that you have someone with a wealth of knowledge on your side!

If you’re looking for a mountain elopement in Colorado with warmer weather, long days, and endless location options, then summer is the perfect time of year.

5 reasons to elope in Colorado during the summer:

1. Wildflowers typically begin blooming in mid-June and can be seen until mid-August. Our favorite regions of Colorado to see wildflowers are Crested Butte and Ouray.

2. Alpine lakes are our favorite places to visit during the summer. If you choose to elope at sunrise, you have a better chance of perfectly still water, giving you a mirrored reflection of the surrounding mountains. Our favorite alpine lakes are in Estes Park, Buena Vista, Ouray, and Telluride.

3. Waterfalls will be most impressive in the summer. With the fresh snow runoff, they’ll be icy cold, making them a great place to cool down. Our favorite waterfalls are in Crested Butte, Ouray, and Telluride.

4. Summer offers the best access to remote and high elevation locations. Whether you want to hike or take an off-road trail, you’ll be able to venture deeper from mid-July to mid-September. Our favorite remote and high elevation locations are in Buena Vista and Ouray.

5. If you’d like to end your elopement day stargazing, summer is the perfect time of year to see the Milky Way, and if you’d time it right, you can stargaze during the Perseid meteor shower.
