We are hiring staff! If you've wanted to work at a retreat center now is the time. Job pays up to $22/hr and is perfect for people who don't want to site at a desk all day.

You would be working as a staff member at the retreat center and be in training to become a Site Director which means you could manage your own retreat center which comes with housing. All the retreat centers we manage are on beautiful properties, see Applegate Retreat Center in the pic.

Even if you're not interested in training to take on your own retreat center - apply and inquire, we need people to help serve our guests.

Neaby Attractions for Guests of Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center of the Sierra!

We love to encourage our retreat center guests to enjoy local attractions. Not far from Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center is Apple Hill. Just 40 minutes away in Placerville you can find apple fritter ice cream sandwiches, apple pies and apple cider! Apple Hill is a delight to experience, our staff agrees!

One of the things we greatly appreciate at Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center, is the natural setting and that we share our facility with many wild animals.

While our guests may be familiar with the deer, geese, and rabbits that are year round residents, the occasional transient black bear does meander through in search of food before hibernation.

So with the humans safely tucked into bed, we quietly photographed this curious bear who seems to be asking, “Any food around here before I settle into my long winter sleep?”

We do what we can to preserve our retreat center in this natural setting and our guests have a healthy respect for wildlife. This meeting of urban life and nature is what makes the nature-scape so perfectly apt to host groups for people that need a reconnection to the natural rhythms of life away from constant media attention.

While the black bear is not the most social creature, the site director recommends bringing a friend while out hiking our trails, as talking with them will cause the bears to scamper away. Our site director also recommends that your friend be a slower runner than you, as you don't have to outrun the bear, only the other person!

Of course we are only joking, yet if you do encounter a bear, simply make noise and don't run. Give bears plenty of space, and if needed, walk away backwards while still facing the bear. We also ask our guest to keep any food or food trash secured inside buildings and not in cars or in outside trash cans.

If this smoke didn’t mean threat, this would be beautiful. We have been fortunate thus far to have our power on here at Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center, yet the smokey air has kept us mostly caring for the tasks inside.

We hope all our guests who are eager to return stay safe and well. We miss you.

Safety first.

That’s why here at Applegate Jesuit Retreat Center we have been practicing pre-plating meals for safe dining, and we think it’s looking pretty good!

We are continually improving our safety measures and have new protective gowns for staff to wear when cleaning the bedrooms & bathrooms. Our safety protocols are intended to do our part to keep our guests and staff safe.

If you have an event scheduled in the next year, you can expect to hear from us in the next few weeks to discuss planning a safe, successful program when we are fully re-open.
