Apollo Area Events Committee

Apollo Area Events Committee Providing Family Fun Events for the Apollo Area since 2006! Please visit: www.apolloareaeventscommittee.com Miss Apollo and Miss Apollo.

The Apollo Area Events Committee was founded by Debbie Schrecengost in March of 2006. We started off with just offering a parade for the community of Apollo. Slowly it grew, to the Miss Apollo Pageant, where girls ages 5-18 living in the Apollo School District can enter to be Little Miss Apollo, Jr. We offer a $300 scholarship to the winner of the Miss Apollo Pageant (age group 14-18). Then Christ

mas Lane came, where children can come sit on Santa's Lap, get a "goodie" bag and candy cane. After sitting on Santa's lap, the children walk through the park to different Christmas Scene's and get candy or a gift of sorts. The kids then get a balloon hat from Debo the Clown and #3 Fire Dept offer rides on a fire truck and at the end there is cookies and hot chocolate. The AR Band plays Christmas Music and other music groups play throughout the evening. This event is totally FREE to the children and their families. Finally came the Ducky Derby! Where we sell 500 tickets, on the ticket is a number which matches a number on a rubber duck that we race down N. 2nd Street. There is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place Winner with cash prizes. Also at the Ducky Derby are craft/food/flea-market vendors and a karaoke contest. This event is held in June and it helps fund the Parade.

December 3, 2016 marked our final event as the AAEC retires after 10 years. This year’s Christmas Lane was our biggest yet, where 227 kids came through the building and sat with Santa, 8 pounds of Nacho’s, 20 pounds of Cheese, 12 pounds of sauerkraut, 271 hot dogs and buns, 100’s of Cookies and Hot Coco was consumed, 800+ prizes, 2500+ pieces of Candy, 200 bags of cotton candy and 70 candy apples were passed out throughout the night. We gave away 5 adult baskets and 20 some toys to some very lucky people. 100s took Fire Truck Rides, got their face painted and were given balloon animals, all while being entertained by the Snow Queen, Whiskers the Lion, the AR Band, and of course our beloved Quack A. Pollo.

This is a bittersweet moment for us, as we are so proud of how much support the community has given us over the past 10 years. We couldn’t have done this without you. Thank you for always donating, buying tickets and coming to our events. We hope the memories we wanted to create for you will last a lifetime.

I want to take this time to thank the committee as well, Debbie Schrecengost, the founder, has worked countless hours for this committee, spending lunch hours, evenings and weekends making phone calls, writing letters and coming up with ideas. Of course She couldn’t do it alone without her hard working volunteers, Brandy Martin, Rose and Robert Burkett, Ed Johnston, Carol Kopnicky, & Theresa and Chris Stewart, who attended weekly meetings, spent hours making items for each events, coming up with ideas, making phone calls, selling tickets and getting the word out of each event. There is a lot of behind the scenes work and a lot off stressing trying to pull of the best Ducky Derby, Miss Apollo Pageant, Parade, Chili and Soup Cook Off and Christmas Lane we could!

As the saying goes, All Good Things Must come to an End.

Painting one of the games for Christmas Lane!! This Saturday... 4:30pm!!! Come see Santa!

As some of you may know, after 12 years, the AAEC will be done after this event. This one is going to be huge, for the first time we have five ADULT baskets we are giving away at the end of the event as well as our toy basket. There will be Christmas music from the AR Band, of course all the returning Christmas Scenes with candy, hot coco, and cookies! We are doing a carnival theme and we will have hot dogs, nachos, cotton candy and more...GUESS WHAT... ITS ALL TOTALLY FREE! Don't bring any money, come eat, get treats from our scenes and tell Santa what you want for Christmas!

One catch, you MUST see Santa to participate in it all!

Hey friends, Will you gather with me in Vandergrift on Sunday evening at 6 PM for a candlelight vigil. Together we will stand for five minutes of silence. Why? In support of humanity; for the family of the young Avonmore girl, for the family of the Canonsburg police officers, and for peace. We pray the violence ends. Let's unite as a community for just a few moments Sunday evening at six pm.

We plan to gather on the sidewalks of Main Street, starting near the borough building on either side of the street.

Comment yes if you will join us . Please share!!!
