So overcome with pride, excitement, and happiness this evening! The GHS culinary team for the Cook Around the World competition at Disney World EPCOT World Showcase Pavilion is bringing home some hardware to showcase their win. Their ability to work as a team, communicate, and demonstrate professionalism through a time-pressured event was such an amazing thing to see. They have worked so hard to fundraise, practice their skills, and build relationships with each other; it paid off tonight.

Gala prep starts with a Rainforest Cafe lunch, naturally! Animal Kingdom, the secret gem of theme parks.

Watching students conquer their first roller coaster and encouraging them to try new, scary, and awesome things - best. job. ever!

Last Saturday my ProStart 2 students competed in a burger competition in the first annual STEM fest for GISD.

Each high school was challenged to create their very own slider, macaroni salad, and a trifle dessert that would be presented to a panel of judges.

The competition team came up with a delicious burger that they coined as “The Valley Burger”. Homemade brioche toasted bun, hot honey pepper bacon, caramelized onions and jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and a secret “valley” sauce, topped with lettuce tomato and a gerkin pickle as garnish. A cilantro lime and avocado macaroni salad mixed with corn, cherry tomatoes. For dessert a light and lemony cake bites layered with homemade lemon curd and blueberry compote.

Ms. Amanda Noel Holguin and I are extremely proud of these students, they welcomed other schools into their kitchen and demonstrated hospitality, professionalism, and teamwork to represent GHS with flying colors.

This team won BEST burger and Most creative macaroni salad for this competition! Not sure what happened but there are zero pictures of our GHS or CHS students and there win, so I am going to shine my light on their success because… well we are their teachers and I know that they are amazing

Additionally, the remaining ProStart 2 students prepared 900 hamburgers for all guests attending the STEM event. They ended up cooking around 750ish burgers for all attendees alongside Chaparral and Santa Teresa high schools.

Once again, I am proud of my students!

We are excited to share the results of our annual MRE Challenge that took place on Tuesday, September 17 and Thursday, September 19, 2024. Our ProStart Level 1 and 2 students, along with ProBaking, showcased their creativity, teamwork, and culinary skills in an exciting competition.
