The FIrst Ever Birding Festival is coming to Calhoun County on October 10!
As we count down to the festival, weβre introducing you to some of the feathered residents you might spot around Calhoun County.
π¦ This weekβs featured bird: The Red-Bellied Woodpecker!
You may hear this colorful character before you spot it! The Red-Bellied Woodpecker is often seen climbing tree trunks and branches in search of insects, nuts, seeds, and fruit.
β€οΈ Despite its name, the bright red youβre most likely to notice is on its head. The bird actually gets its name from the soft reddish patch on its belly, which can be surprisingly hard to see!
