Some nice lady asked if she could take a picture of us on our first real outing date.
Like all pictures of photographers it is slightly out of focus, but it's my favorite picture of us.
It's a picture of the kindest woman I know, a woman who would be a devoted mother, who would laugh and cry with me through unemployment and blessing, who would marry me in a backyard in an Amazon wedding dress because the world shut down.
Some nice lady took a picture of us on the day I knew I never wanted to be without her.

So, we've been enjoying our state enforced honeymoon staycation for the past week, but I guess it's time to make it Instagram official. We decided to do a small elopement at our most wonderful of wedding photographer's house ( @victoria.selman ) last week (don't worry we kept it under 10 people present to keep it legal)

Tomorrow I head to Egypt to document the persecuted church for a week, with Honduras on the docket for late summer to document a Catholic orphanage charity. God was incredible in 2019, I can't wait to see what happens in 2020.
Sometimes as a photographer I get to something special for some wonderful people. The Blade family have been neighbors of ours for 3 years and in that time have become like family. In this crazy world, we have keys to each other's houses, Audie will walk next door and hang out with them and more than once they've just asked if we want to eat dinner with them. @lizzy.blade has been our babysitter since she was 16 and is basically his sister at this point. We've laughed, cried, prayed and complained together.

On the P-3 we had a rudimentary missile warning system that was originally designed for low flying helicopters. At the Mashouk refugee camp in Tyre, Lebanon, you will find children from age 3-15 in the same classroom. A small whiteboard hangs on the wall showing basic Arabic characters and words. Most of these children have never been to school, and it shows. A mild atmosphere of chaos rules as the one teacher raps a ruler on a desk in a vain struggle to maintain order. War in Syria has raged for over 8 years making in the only constant many of these children have known, and it's effects will stretch generationally.

In Tyre, Lebanon, there are dozens of camps housing Syrian refugees. If you are like me, you probably pictured a large open field with UN tents stretching over the horizon. In fact most of these camps are in junk strewn backyards in urban areas. Children of all ages sit in a tiny room and learn a lesson...3 year olds and 13 year olds learning the Arabic alphabet.
We interrupt the usual literary posts for some real talk. My sister took this picture of me in Prague and commented that I looked tired. You may have noticed I've kind of dropped off the map with my photography. I've still booked a few weddings this year, but the pace of my life has reached a frenzied peak. Between construction projects at my house, working as a social media manager, VR filmmaking, teaching at the academy, being a dad, being a board member at a non-profit, freelancing and transitioning out of the Navy...it's a lot
A theme I've been seeing a lot in my life recently is Sabbath. Taking time for myself, to care for my body, mind and spirit. It's not easy. I love taking advantage of opportunities but it comes at a cost. Rudyard Kipling said "more men are killed by overwork than the importance of the world justifies."
So here's the deal. I'm making a commitment to pour into myself creatively. You may see some out of the ordinary shots here, you may see new compositions, cool stories or different colors. Enjoy it, give me feedback...I'd love to hear an outsider's opinion on the things I've wanted to test out. It's how we grow.
