All of the hats and costumes of Q Heart III are produced by a talented crew of artisans located around the greater Maryland area. We strive to produce quality clothing that will provide years of wear, as well as the popular hats at our second location, the “Hat Cart”, located just down the hill from O’Shucks above the Lyric Stage. Our wide range of styles can take you from fairy princess to pirate to highlander with a few simple accessories.

If you’re just starting to build a faire wardrobe, this is a good place to begin: our overdresses and pep vests (also called peplum vests) are foundations you can wear differently every weekend, whether you’re layering them, dressing them up, or keeping them simple. They are some of the most versatile pieces we carry for exactly that reason.

Also, fair warning — it’s basically impossible not to spin in them at least once. We’ve tested this extensively.

A question we get a lot: are our clothes historically accurate? Not really, and we’re upfront about why. We’re dressing people for the Mid-Atlantic, not Renaissance Europe, and that means skipping the wool layers nobody actually wants to wear at a summer festival.

Cotton for most pieces, jacquard on select vests and overdresses, velour for capes — chosen for comfort, not accuracy. We’re after clothing that captures the spirit of the Renaissance, not a museum replica.

A quick faire styling trick: the skirt hike. Pinch some fabric, pull it through both loops, back over one, then through the other, and you get that gathered, layered look instantly — no pins required. Small tool, big difference.
