To my trans friends, chosen family, and community:
On this Trans Day of Visibility—and every day—I want you to hear this from the heart: you matter. Not just for who you are, but for everything you’ve given to this world.
So much of the freedom many experience today exists because of you. Because of trans individuals who stood on the front lines, who refused to be erased, who demanded dignity when the world tried to deny it. From the uprising at the Stonewall Inn to the countless acts of courage that never made headlines, your existence has always been resistance—and your resistance has always moved history forward.
You are pioneers of modern civil rights movements. You are culture shapers, artists, leaders, caretakers, and truth-tellers. You’ve created space where there was none. You’ve built community in the face of rejection. You’ve shown what it means to live authentically, even when it’s not easy. That kind of courage doesn’t just change lives—it changes generations and your impact is everywhere—especially in music, nightlife, and creative spaces. The beats we move to, the spaces where freedom is felt, the culture of expression and individuality—it all carries your fingerprints. I mean it when I say: you can’t DJ without the LGB(T) Q+. This culture, this energy, this freedom—it exists because of you.
We’ve come a long way, and that deserves to be honored. But we also have to hold space for grief. We honor the lives of those we’ve lost in recent years—lives taken too soon due to anti-trans legislation, discrimination, and targeted violence. They are not forgotten. Their names, their stories, and their impact live on in this fight.
And that truth makes it even clearer: the fight isn’t over. Not in this current climate, where rights are still being challenged and trans lives are still being targeted simply for existing. That’s why visibility alone isn’t enough—we need protection, action, and unwavering solidarity.
“Protect Trans Lives” is not just as a statement, but a responsibility. In our words, our spaces, our policies, and our everyday choices. Because everyone deserves to live openly, safely, and without fear.
So we keep showing up. We keep speaking out. We keep building, loving, and protecting each other. Because trans lives matter. Trans joy matters. Trans futures matter.
I see you. I appreciate you. I stand with you—loudly, proudly, and always.
