New AV resources for hybrid meetings, including an Owl, are now available on the lower level, thanks to the generous support of the Sundelson Fund. Also, we’ve expanded our children’s library in the family room.

Genesis took a giant leap forward toward our goal of carbon neutrality last month. In July, Genesis staff oversaw the installation of both a new heat pump RTU and a new array of solar panels. Between the new solar array and the new heat pump RTU, Genesis anticipates lowering our utility costs by up to $17,000 a year.

For our June 8th anniversary celebrations, our honored guests delivered moving thoughts and our cantor, inspired to compose a song for the occasion, debuted her song. Here we present these remarks of Bishop Perry and Rabbi Jacobs, followed by the lyrics to Cantor Maier's “Heal Our Broken World.”

Genesis is thrilled to share some shining news: we have a brand-new commercial dishwasher! Thanks to the generosity of our donors–the Rust Foundation, the Women of TBE, and the TBE Brotherhood–we were able to replace our aging, leaky unit with a top-of-the-line Hobart commercial dishwasher.

Last Sunday, a few dozen of our most intrepid TBE and STC congregants braved construction traffic and the heat wave to together witness the Toledo Mud Hens triumph 5-3 over the Charlotte Knights. The game was the inaugural event of the newly-reconstituted Genesis Events Committee, which plans to sponsor an Erev Thanksgiving potluck and an annual Genesis picnic, aiming to strengthen the bonds between our congregations.

On June 1, Genesis held its 2025 Annual Meeting, followed by a Tri-Board meeting of the Genesis Board, the Temple Board, and the Church Vestry. With all the anniversary celebrations, lest our members think it's all fun and games, we attended to some very important business at these back-to-back meetings. The annual meeting highlighted our accomplishments this year but also called attention to our extensive capital needs. The Tri-Board meeting laid the foundation for making crucial budgetary decisions by clarifying our shared values and priorities.

The Genesis Grounds committee sure has been busy over the past couple weeks. Volunteers from both our congregations and our partner congregation Blue Ocean Faith, supported by some of our dedicated staff, have done some incredible work to beautify our grounds this spring. And we're just getting started! Our crew came together twice in just a few days. First to do the prep work for a makeover of the Eastover Garden, where we will introduce native Michigan flowering plants. And last Sunday, for the Spring Awakening and Spring Salad Potluck, with a turnout of some 75 volunteers.

The Genesis 50th Anniversary Celebration Courtyard is coming very soon! Help build the courtyard and your legacy by memorializing your loved ones with an engraved brick. We are counting on you to place your legacy. The sale of at least 40 bricks will make the project a reality. You can reserve your brick for $300, which is mostly a tax-deductible donation to Genesis.

At Genesis' Erev Thanksgiving Service last November, we showed a first cut of this short documentary on the genesis of Genesis. Now we are pleased to present the final cut!

In the film, four founders share their recollections about how our unique partnership evolved. "It was a good financial arrangement. But that was the least of it. There was a commitment from both congregations [to show the world] that two different faiths could share a single space and make it work,” remarked Marilyn Scott (TBE President 1977-81).

At a foundational moment, there was even a divine sign! But no spoilers, you'll need to watch for that revelation.

As the season of light and celebration approaches, Genesis of Ann Arbor extends our warmest wishes to our congregants and their loved ones. This year, Christmas and Hanukkah converge, with Hanukkah beginning on the evening of Christmas Day—a beautiful reminder of the shared hope of our respective traditions. In the glow of hanukkiahs and the twinkle of Christmas lights, we heed a collective call to bring light to a world in need of healing.
