The Andover Community Coffeehouse Presents
Guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto
Friday, Feb. 17, 7 p.m.
Highland Lake Grange Hall, East Andover
Headlining the Andover Community Coffeehouse this month is Hiroya Tsukamoto, returning for his second Coffeehouse appearance. Hiroya is a one-of-a-kind composer, guitarist and singer-songwriter from Kyoto, Japan. He began playing the five-string banjo when he was thirteen, and took up the guitar shortly after.
In 2000, Hiroya received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music and came to the United States. He formed own group in Boston "INTEROCEANICO (inter-oceanic)" which consists of unique musicians from different continents including Latin Grammy Colombian singer Marta Gomez. The group released three acclaimed records ("The Other Side of the World", "Confluencia" and "Where the River Shines"). Hiroya released two solo albums ("Heartland" and "Places") from Japanese record label 333 discs.
Hiroya has been leading concerts internationally including several appearances at Blue Note in New York City with his group and Japanese National Television(NHK). Hiroya performed, recorded and shared stage with Esperanza Spalding, The Kennedys, Joe Jencks(Brother Sun), Michael League (Snarky Puppy), Brooks Williams and Jim Kweskin.
In 2022, he won 2nd place in the International Finger Style Guitar Championship. Check out his website here: https://hiroyatsukamoto.com
The evening is free, although we "pass the hat" -- and donations are gratefully accepted to be split with the featured performer. There will also be a handful of "open mic" performers doing a song or two each -- and it will be a great evening as usual!
Doors of the Highland Lake Grange Hall, intersection of Route 11 and Chase Hill Road in East Andover, open at 6 p.m. for food and beverage purchases -- hot dogs, wraps, soups, desserts -- as well as sound checks and Open Mic sign-ups on a first come, first served basis. Music begins at 7 pm.
This month's Coffeehouse sponsor is Andover's Bluewater Lodge, lakeside wedding & event venue. Check out their website at https://www.bluewaterfarm.net/. Thank you, Kyle and Mark Tremblay!
