πŸ’₯🫨 A few nights ago, I fell asleep on the couch watching a movie with the doggies, when we were jolted awake at 2am by the sound of an explosion!

I struggled to make sense of what was happening, but before I could even shake off the sleepiness and force my eyes open, all 5 doggies were flying up the stairs to the bedroom. Normally they run and bark at any sound they hear, so my heart rushed with fear.

As I pulled myself up and looked around I saw one of my giant ferns that hangs above the doorway in a pile on the floor. πŸƒ My head started spinning with questions: How on earth did that happen? Is the fern going to be okay? What if one of us had been underneath it in that moment?

I was too tired to investigate. So I picked up the fern from its side, and knowing everyone was okay, I joined the doggies in bed. The next day I discovered that the wooden hoops on the extensions I had commissioned for them had snapped into pieces. Clearly unable to hold the weight of the ferns after watering. ⛓️‍πŸ’₯ I replaced them with metal chains rated for 300lbs to eliminate any chance of this happening again.

🌿 REMINDER to ensure the hardware you are using to hang plants can withstand the weight of the plant as it grows and while holding water.

I may live in Alaska, but I feel blessed to call Tennessee β€œHOME” πŸ’š I flew back this week to be with my grandma through knee replacement surgery and recovery, and I was lucky enough to get the chance to soak up some sunshine during the absolute best time of year in the Smoky Mountains.

I spent lots of time with my momma collecting bird calls on our .bird.id app, taking walks in the woods with my brother, being with my grandma through her surgery & recovery, having bonfire nights with my cousins, loving up on my most loyal puppy niece, throwing a surprise party for my cousin and petting all the puppies I could find along the way.

As action packed and busy as the last 10 days have been, this land has re-energized my soul. I always feel like myself again after some time in TN.

🌺 π’ππ‘πˆππ† 𝐅𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 🌺
As a conservationist and artist, I’ve noticed that there aren’t as many sustainable forms of art as there should be.

This is something I’ve grappled with for many years. Paints made of acrylics, encaustics releasing neurotoxins, resins made of plastics, pottery off-gassing chemicals. These are all mediums I’ve worked with and most of them I have left behind.

These days I work with earth pigment watercolors, create preserved moss art and am constantly learning to refine my pottery to be more sustainable.

π™‹π™§π™šπ™¨π™šπ™§π™«π™šπ™™ 𝙒𝙀𝙨𝙨 π™žπ™¨ 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙖𝙒 𝙒𝙀𝙨𝙩 π™₯𝙧𝙀π™ͺ𝙙 𝙀𝙛. Finally a medium I have sourced and curated to be completely sustainable and friendly for your home and the earth. I believe in art that leaves no trace. Do you?
