AK Wedding Lady was started by Rae when she was planning her own wedding. Rae has been event planning for over five years and realized there was not a lot of affordable friendly help when it comes to wedding planning. Originally from Portland, Or, Rae wished she had all of her girlfriends up in Alaska to help her plan her perfect day. Rae started Ak Wedding Lady to help women and couples have a f

riend in Alaska to help with the wedding planning on a comfortable, fun and friendly level. AK Wedding Lady only does 12 weddings a year to make sure we can dedicate the needed time to your wedding!

Ladies – what is your theme or color scheme? I have always wanted a country barn wedding. Being up in Alaska makes that a little more difficult, but it hasn’t stopped me. Cabins are abundant here and can still have the same feel as a barn! My color scheme is peach and pistachio, as I absolutely love those colors. Once you pick a theme, you really need to stick with it. It will make planning much easier and less stressful! If you have pictures of what you want, save them! So brides – I have gotten some questions about my wedding planning binder I have. Here is how I organize mine to keep my sanity!

First section: Wedding party, favors for wedding party, guest list, favors for guests, ideas for a guest book, and anyone I am hiring, and a budget list.

Second section: Attire, ideas or actual (including ring bearer and flower girl.) You will want bridesmaids and groomsmen attire as well. This is a good place to organize and plan your bouquets.

Third Section: All your décor ideas! This will very greatly by bride. Décor is something that I organize ideas on pinterest and when I am set on and idea I will print it out along with any directions and keep it here. Programs, invitations, save the dates, music etc.

Fourth Section: Food, seating, table assignment, dishes.

In reality, it doesn’t matter how you divide your planning but its always good to have an idea of where you are keeping things that way you can find them! Having a physical copy of your planning is great because on your wedding day and the week leading up this will be easier to carry around than a laptop..PLUS it is a great thing to keep and look back on for anniversaries to come!

It’s bridal tip time again! Shoes!!! Ahh shoes, they can be our favorite part but the part we hate the most. If you haven’t found your pair {or two} yet, consider this. N**e shoes! They make your legs look leaner and longer, and I wouldn’t mind that on my wedding day

Lighting! So we are back to posing chat here. Bright, artificial light is not flattering for any of us. It washes us out and creates not so flattering shadows. When possible, take your photos in soft and diffused lighting. You will be much happier with the outcome.

Remember to make your to-do list as you plan your wedding! I do this regularly as an event planner and as a coach. Set due dates for yourself, especially if you are hand-making elements. You don’t want to be up until 4am the night before your wedding trying to finalize your vision. Your bridal party will appreciate this too! Give yourself enough time, you never know when something won’t go quite as planned!

Bridal tip I absolutely love! Belt your wedding dress. Belts help define your waist, some dresses come belted or you can ask your bridal salon consultant to suggest some beaded or embellished belts that you will love! One thing I have personally done when I almost love a dress but something is off, try a belt on. It changes the entire dress and sometimes it covers up a random piece of bling that you may not love!
