To get this event venue thing rolling, we are going to have an open house for brides and their moms on Sunday, April 24, from 2-5. I am of an age where some social media things don't come naturally to me, but I understand that if you are a bride-to-be looking for a beautiful place to hold your wedding, you can sign up to come see us on the 24th by RSVP'ing on our Eventbright link. If you have trouble doing so, please let me know.

I grew up in Lynchburg but spent a lot of summers during my grade school and junior high years helping my grandparents on the farm, mostly making hay for the cattle. I remember the challenges. We could never start as early in the day as we might have wanted because of the dew on the ground. Likewise, afternoon thunderstorms cut short our time in the fields. The good news was that this always gave us time to fix whichever piece of hay making equipment needed repair that day. I can still taste the roast pork, raw onion and home made mayo sandwiches grandma would make for us at lunchtime.

I spoke earlier of the Caterpillars coming to Amherst from the farm in Arizona by train. When all the pastures were cleared and being made ready for Black Angus beef cattle, they of course needed to be fenced. I remember my grandfather telling me there were seven miles of 5-strand barbed wire to be strung. The required 35 miles of wire also came into Amherst on a rail car.
