Red Friars Dance Club members have shared a love of ballroom dancing to a live big band since 1934. We love welcoming new members and guests. Please join us!
We are located at 644 W 190th St in Ames, Iowa at the Moose Lodge. Come and dance on our beautiful wood dance floor, always to a live band! The Moose Lodge has a fine, large wooden dance floor and plenty of convenient parking. Couples may attend their first dance free of charge. Former members and those who have been guests previously may attend single dances by paying $40 per couple per dance. Al
l members are encouraged to invite new couples to our dances as often as they wish. Dues are $180 per couple for six dances, or $140 for four dances. You may find membership forms on our website: www.redfriars.org. Contact [email protected] to ask questions or make reservations. While members attend dances as couples, single people are welcome to join our club and bring a guest to each dance. New members joining mid-year will have their first year’s dues prorated. In addition, the club hosts a New Year’s Eve dance. There is an additional cost for this dance, which is lots of fun and always open to the public. Dinner is provided by Moose Lodge members before each dance for an additional fee. This is a wonderful chance to socialize and meet new friends! Reservations are required, and can be made by contacting Louie Banitt at [email protected] . Dance sets include foxtrot, waltz, swing, tango and Latin dances. Our dancers represent a variety of skill levels, so this is a great place for beginners and experienced dancers alike to practice their steps – and find some new ones! What to wear? Some members love to dress up, others prefer a more casual affair. Most men wear suits or sports coats; women wear skirts, dresses or dressy slacks. Most important to us is that everyone enjoys the dancing experience and has a good time! Our most important tradition is having a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for members, visitors and dancers of all skill levels. We hope you will join us!
We lost a wonderful friend and beautiful soul this month. Roger Berger loved his friends, loved his community, loved dancing, and most especially loved his wonderful wife, Kay. His memorial is this Saturday. We will miss you dearly, Roger.

Our Story

This season, due to COVID-19, we have decided to suspend our dances until February, 2021 and hold 5 dances, all on first Fridays. Dues are $140 for four dances. This price includes a fifth dance in February, which was postponed from last April.
All couples may attend their first dance free of charge! Former members and those who have been guests previously may attend single dances by paying $40 per couple per dance. Members are encouraged to invite new couples to our dances as often as they wish.
While members attend dances as couples, single people are welcome to join our club and bring a guest to each dance. New members joining mid-year will have their first year’s dues prorated. In most seasons, the club hosts a New Year’s Eve dance and a Valentines Dance in addition to our regular season. While we are not holding these dances this year, we hope to again in the future. There is an additional cost for each of these dances, which are lots of fun and always open to the public.
Dance sets include foxtrot, waltz, swing, tango and Latin dances. Our dancers represent a variety of skill levels, so this is a great place for beginners and experienced dancers alike to practice their steps – and find some new ones!
