I saw them before anyone else did.
Before the flowers were perfectly placed, before the music began, before the ballroom filled with champagne glasses and conversation, they passed beneath me all day. The bride descended in white, trying to take in every last detail. The groom appeared from upstairs, nerves tucked neatly beneath a well-tailored suit. Photographers moved quietly through the room while everything was still untouched, suspended in that strange little moment before a wedding truly begins.
I knew what came next. I always do.
Soon, the doors opened and the room transformed. Candles flickered below me. Glasses clinked. Someone cried before they meant to. Someone laughed loudly enough to turn heads. Dresses swept across the floor, the music grew louder, and the photographs became softer, blurrier, more alive.
From above, I caught it all in my crystals.
I watched the glances exchanged across crowded tables. I saw hands reach for one another without thinking. I knew which smiles were for the camera and which ones happened when no one thought they were being watched.
And eventually, they found their way to the center of the ballroom.
They danced beneath my light while everything around them seemed to soften into gold and movement. And when the room finally emptied, I kept one last dance just for them, holding the light while they lingered in the love of the day a little longer. For a few minutes, the room belonged entirely to them.
I have watched this story unfold many times. I know the nerves before the vows, the relief after them, the way a room changes when everyone you love is finally gathered in one place.
And still, every once in a while, a night comes along that sparkles a little differently.
This was one of them.
Yours truly,
The Chandelier ✨
