r product placement or party hosting. One side of the room has a large plain white wall for a backdrop. Our backroom has a Frigidaire and an enclosed restroom. This area has another door entrance from the backside, making it easier for fewer distractions. There is an extended covered patio of 800 square feet with an entrance from the kitchenette. The back area has concrete floors and a sink, and a Frigidaire. Bright LED lights are great for the evening. Daytime natural light comes from side skylights. For More Detailed Information

From Ashes to Hope: Supporting Our Family’s Next Chapter

My name is Samera Arkel, and I’m the proud owner of 409 Woodbury, a creative space in Altadena that I built with love, resilience, and community support. Altadena is my home—it’s shaped my family’s story for generations.

On January 8, 2025, the Eaton Canyon Fire took everything: the home I grew up in, schools like Saint Marks where my son spent nine years, and even familiar landmarks like the Altadena Golf Course. My parents’ house, where they raised five kids and opened their hearts to neighbors, friends, and anyone in need, stood for 50 years as a place of connection and love. Now, it’s all gone.

But this community, built on compassion, gives me strength. At 409 Woodbury, I carry forward my family’s legacy of care—offering a space for dreams, helping others, and creating hope. The fire has left scars, but Altadena’s spirit of resilience and connection will always burn brighter.

Eaton Canyon Fires - Altadena

My name is Samera Arkel, and I’m a single mom to a 15-year-old son, a business owner, and someone who has dedicated her life to this beautiful community. Altadena has been home to my family for over 65 years. My parents raised five children here, and over time, my siblings and I built our own lives in this incredible town.

Last week, we lost everything. My parents’ home, where generations of family and friends gathered, was reduced to ashes. My siblings’ homes, filled with love and cherished memories, were destroyed. And my own home, the place where I raised my son and built our life, is gone. Decades of memories—all gone in an instant.

The fires also damaged my event space, 409 Woodbury—a place I built with my own two hands after losing my clothing stores during the pandemic. It wasn’t just a business; it was a space for the community, a place where people came together to celebrate, connect, and dream.

But Altadena has always been more than a home to me—it’s where I’ve poured my heart into helping others. From offering my space to schools, fundraisers, and those in need, to supporting my neighbors with food, shelter, or even a listening ear, giving back has been my way of life.
While this loss is unimaginable, my love for Altadena and the strength of this community remain unshaken. Together, I know we can rebuild.
