Wow! It's been over two years since we posted anything. That's terrible! But in that time we were blessed with our now almost 18 month old daughter Lily and I (Sean) changed jobs to get back to doing something I love, working with trees. Needless to say, we've had very little time to post about what's going on here at Moon Maiden Flowers, so it's high time we re-connected.
Before this season even started, Tracey and I knew we couldn't do any large scale production with three kids under 7 years old. Not that the oldest kids aren't helpful when they get involved (our 4 year old, Luna can snip and strip a flower stem with the best of them), it's just too hard to coordinate all the moving parts of the season when only one of us can be working on the farm at a time. Instead of overdoing it and wearing ourselves out early in the season, we decided to take the year to observe and refine our processes while continuing to build up our infrastructure. In essence, we 'took a break'.
It's 100% not a break, because we are producing flowers and we will have bouquets at market soon but this season has been different because we wanted to enjoy our family and our kids but still grow great flowers,......just without all the stress. So far so good!! Everything is coming along here despite the horrible onslaught of rain we had this spring and Tracey will be getting out to the market soon with some really beautiful flowers.
Thanks for your support and for following us. We're really excited to get planning for a lot of growth (pun intended) next season. Also, check us out on Instagram. Tracey has been snapping shots of the garden and the greenhouse as the flowers have been coming into bloom. Flowers just make everything better!! Cheers!
A new season is just about here and what better way to welcome the change then with a new name. After receiving some excellent input from friends and professionals we decided we were in need of a little rebranding. Thus, Moon Maiden Flowers was born. We're crazy excited to get the season underway. Our seeds have arrived, the larkspur has true leaves, and we're just about to clear another 4000+ sq. ft. of bed space to accommodate production needs.
We look forward to providing a beautiful product that our customers can enjoy as much as we do, and we'll share the markets where we can be found here soon. Thanks for checking us out!!
Cheers!!
Hello!! This is the first post, (sweet!) and we're excited to introduce ourselves and our little business. This year was our first year in production and despite some difficulties that led to lots of great learning opportunities, we had a blast!! Growing cut flowers is awesome. It's hard work but enriching, and there's something truly gratifying about sharing our flowers. Needless to say, we're really excited for next season, as we look to join a few more markets and, more importantly, connect with new people to share our love of plants and the joy of cut flowers.
The season has ended for this year but as we get ramped up for next season we're hoping to share our experiences of what life is like on our farm. Thanks for visiting!!
Cheers!!
