On this Wild Wednesday, we bring to you the first winter waterfowl that's been spotted in the park! 🦆

A female Hooded Merganser has been enjoying the pond behind the Nature Center. Hooded Mergansers are one of many species that migrate when the season changes. As the weather gets colder, these birds will travel South to find warmer temperatures. When temperatures begin rise again, these birds will travel back North. Hooded Mergansers migrate late in the year, sometimes just ahead of icy conditions, so be sure to bundle up if you are on the search for one! 🧣

Meet our neighbor, The Hanson Park Nature Center, just across the pond. The Nature Center brings enjoyment and understanding of our natural resources and bridges the gap between people of all ages and nature through experience-based education. The spacious building and adjacent forested trails, fields, and ponds will provide environmental education through numerous exhibits, activities, and structured programs.

Currently the Nature Center is open limited hours, please check and like the Hanson Regional Park page to find out how to be a part of the Nature Center’s exciting and engaging programs that encourage curiosity, exploration, and action. Come out and meet the Naturalist!
