A Journey That Started With a Camera at Age Eight
When I was eight years old, our next-door neighbor gave me an old camera. My mother said I could keep it, but if I wanted film and processing, I had to figure out how to pay for it myself.
So I got a paper route.
That little camera started a journey with photography that has now lasted more than 60 years.
Over those years, photography followed me through many chapters of my life. I photographed programs for the YMCA and Boy Scouts, used photography as a Naval Officer, documented crime scenes and forensic evidence during my career with NIS and NCIS, and later tried my hand at portraits and weddings.
But through it all, I discovered that the photography I truly love is landscape photography.
Now that I'm retired, I finally have more time to pursue that passion. My wife and I love to travel, and one of my dreams is to explore more beautiful places around the world and create photographs of what we find along the way.
I'm not looking to build a photography empire. I'd simply love for my photography to help fund some of those adventures, the photographs from one journey helping us get to the next.
For several years I've tried selling my work through my own website, without much success. I came close to deciding that maybe selling my photography simply wasn't going to happen.
Then I discovered a different approach. I began working with people who understand how artists can sell their work online, and professional photographers who reviewed my portfolio encouraged me to keep going.
So I'm giving it another shot.
Today, I'm excited to officially announce the launch of my Etsy photography shop!
And I could use a little help getting it started.
For the rest of August 2026, I'm offering friends, family—and anyone else who discovers my work, 50% off everything in the shop.
If you find a photograph you genuinely enjoy, even purchasing a small print would help me get those important first sales. And after you receive it, an honest review would mean a great deal to me.
There are landscapes from some of the beautiful places I've visited, and even a few fun photographs, like the fruit signs I found at Seattle's Pike Place Market that still make me smile.
Even if you don't purchase anything, I'd love for you to visit the shop, look around, and share it with someone who might enjoy my photography.
It's pretty amazing to think that an old camera given to an eight-year-old boy more than 60 years ago eventually led me here.
I'm excited to see where the camera takes me next.
