TROY NY (8/22/25) — Slidin' Dirty is returning to Troy.
The popular slider restaurant and food truck plans to open a new spot this fall, taking over the entire first-floor space formerly known as the River Street Market at 433 River St.
“Slidin’ Dirty was born in Troy, starting as a food truck on St. Patrick'’ Day in 2012 before opening our first physical restaurant on First Street in 2014,” said Slidin’ Dirty owner and chef Tim Taney. “It feels good to be back in Troy, where our story started, and to connect again with the community that supported us from the beginning.”
The return of Slidin’ Dirty to Troy follows a series of changes for the brand. In August 2023, Taney separated the food truck and catering business from the restaurant space, which he rebranded as Twisted Fiddler, a live music tavern with standard pub food. That location closed in October 2024 when Taney’s 10-year lease on the space ended.
Meanwhile, the food truck and catering business continued unchanged. In December 2024, Taney took over the kitchen at Ophelia's in Albany, operating as Slidin’ Dirty at Ophelia’s. Two months later, in February 2025, Slidin’ Dirty also took over kitchen operations at NaNola in Malta. The front house of both restaurants is staffed by owner Shane Spillenger, a business arrangement that is becoming more common in the Capital Region.
Taney said the new Troy Slidin’ Dirty restaurant will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with brunch on weekends. Hours and a full menu will be announced closer to opening, but the focus will include popular sliders, Fravos avocado fries, salads and wings. Vegan options will be available as always.
The space will have two bars: one main bar in the area that was formerly The Fox and The Burn, and another bar for special events. Future plans include hosting live music, private gatherings and possibly karaoke or trivia nights.
“We need to get up and running and comfortable with the space first,” Taney said. “We’ll probably adjust some of our hours and see what works best for the location. And then we’ll announce a special event to celebrate our return to Troy.”
Taney said the business is awaiting approval from the New York State Liquor Authority, with an expected opening in four to six weeks. Job openings will be posted soon, but anyone interested in working there can email [email protected] now.
“Slidin’ Dirty is going to be a great fit for this building and this neighborhood,” said Cecelia Bette, associate broker at First Columbia Development + Property Management. “There’s so much happening in this part of Troy, and First Columbia is doing our part to keep the revitalization of downtown Troy moving north.”
First Columbia has led the redevelopment of The Waterfront Troy for nearly two decades, revitalizing a half-mile stretch along the Hudson River with mixed-use projects that preserve history while adding modern amenities.
Highlights include the approximately $75 million Flanigan Square Transformation Project, which created 72 market-rate apartments at Flanigan Square Lofts—with move-ins starting in early 2025—plus street-level retail that includes a ReStyle Thrift Store, a TSL Kids daycare center, Bargain Grocery for affordable food access, and a Central Rock Gym for fitness. These join other First Columbia efforts like the Courtyard by Marriott hotel, The Loft apartments with river views, The Works co-working space, and connections via the RiverWalk trail to downtown Troy.
