Want your mums to come back next year? Plant them early!

Did you know that if you want your mums to return next year, late August through early September is one of the best times to plant them here in Michigan?
Planting early gives mums several weeks to establish a strong root system before the ground freezes, increasing their chances of surviving the winter and blooming again next fall.

For the best results:
🌼 Plant them in a sunny location (at least 6 hours of sunlight).
💧 Water regularly until the ground freezes.
🌿 Add a layer of mulch after the ground freezes to help protect the roots over winter.
✂️ Wait until spring to cut back the dead stems—they'll provide extra winter protection.

While no mum is guaranteed to overwinter, planting them early gives them the best opportunity to thrive for years to come!
