This is Lucas at only 11, almost 12, he has an incredible passion for animals and specifically turtles! As my cousin he’s been around animals since he could walk! He helps every week with cleaning cages and feeding, and today we sent him out to help with a program! These pictures mean a lot to me. He’s not only learned to love and respect animals but, is now learning to teach others about them and having so much fun doing it!

I’m happy to report that Charles the alligator, received his two week checkup today, and we are all smiling!

Previously, the New England Wildlife Center gave a pneumonia diagnosis and prescribed antibiotics.

Since rescue day, Charles has been responding well to the antibiotics and continues to gain weight.

Just a reminder that it is important to reach out to your local animal control, environmental police, and wildlife rescue groups during any situation that involves the rescue or relocation of an animal.

Charles is fortunate that he was seen in the river by people that took the correct action and contacted MA wildlife and animal control - allowing Charles to have a chance at safe and healthy life!

Tonight NBC10 Boston contacted me for an interview regarding the small American alligator that was spotted in the Charles River near Back Bay. After the interview, more information was shared about the location the alligator was last seen. So, I grabbed a head lamp and flashlight and took a ride into Boston. 🐊

With the cold temps, the alligator had very low chances of surviving. With some luck and a couple of bright flashlights after 15 minutes I found the Boston alligator. I was able to capture him safely and he will be warm and housed until we get more information and instructions on what’s next for this little guy. We are hoping that he will be a new resident and ambassador here at Joe’s Crazzy Critters 💚

Happy Monday! The critters crew hopes everyone’s having a great start to their week!

Here’s a few photos of a blood python, scientifically known as Python brongersmai. We named her Cinnamon because she’s a little bit spicy!

This snake is a really cool addition to the critters family because it’s a T+ albino color morph! This means she is albino but still expresses some color in her scales. Wicked cool! 😃

While adaptable, blood pythons are commercially harvested and illegal trade has previously threatened populations. Captive breeding has boosted their popularity as well as reduced wild collection pressure.

Blood pythons can weigh up to 30 lbs and typically grow to lengths of about 5 ft, occasionally reaching 8ft.

Because of Cinnamon’s spicy nature she will not be brought to shows however if you’d like to see more updates, photos & info posts about her - let us know! 🍂

Happy Halloween! Meet our little creepy crawling critter - a Caribbean Hermit Crab (Coenobita clypeatus) named Shelby. Unlike true crabs, they have a soft, asymmetrical abdomen that they protect by living inside scavenged shells 🐚

Often advertised at small pet shops as being low maintenance and easy to care for - these crabs have somewhat needy requirements to thrive. When properly cared for they can live 20+ years. Possibly the oldest recorded lifespan of a captive crab was 44 years old, before passing in 2021. Impressive!

Tank size, humidity, shell options, proper diet are all important factors to research and keep in mind when interested in having a hermit crab companion.

Say hello to Mo, one of our personal favorites and a crowd-pleaser! As a Rhacodactylus Leachianus from New Caledonia, Mo is the largest living gecko species! A neat fact about Leachianus is that they’re known for being quite vocal while foraging at night for their food.

While some of these gecko giants have a cranky reputation, Mo is quite friendly and enjoys showing off his appetite for fruits during programs! Mo’s diet in captivity consists of a mango banana smoothie - a special geckos tasty treat full of essential vitamins and nutrients! 🍌🥭
