The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day:

When the Magnolia building in Dallas was opened at a cost of four million dollars in 1922, not only was it the tallest building west of the Mississippi River but it was the first high-rise in the United States to have air conditioning and Dallas' first skyscraper. At 400' high, it remained Texas' tallest building for only a short time, until it was surpassed by Houston's Niels Esperson Building in 1929. It is, of course, most famous for having the illuminated Pegasus on top.
