Always something interesting in the Petersen household... Last September, the girls brought in this caterpillar to watch it turn into a butterfly. We do this quite often with monarchs so was never expecting this one would take so long. Flash forward to today and it finally hatched! It's a beautiful Eastern Tiger Swallowtail! Been a bit MIA for about the last month. My family lost this great man, my dad, pictured below. While my heart hurts, I know I will have another guardian angel and gardening spirit with me while I'm out in God's masterpiece.
Also, if he could help me grow those enormous onions like he did every year, that would be fantastic. (They were legit the size of softballs.) Now more than ever I'm ready for spring and dirt therapy... its good for the soul.

Spring is in 31 days! It will be a very cold -25 tonight!! Hard to believe our last frost date is in about 12 weeks... but that means it's time to start those seeds soon! I did start these lupines, which are perennials and very special to me. My Grandma Mack started many of these and called them "popsicle plants".
