South Louisiana’s Premier Special Event Venue...

Magdalen Place Reception Center began its legacy in 1994, when it was transformed into the beautiful facility that it is today. Its location in Abbeville, which is adjacent to Magdalen Square, steps away from St. Mary Magdalen Church, and a short trip from surrounding areas in Acadiana, makes it a thoroughly wonderful destination for your special occasion.

The building evolved in its original location from Ray Chevrolet, to Libersat Motors, and finally Magdalen Place.

The building was purchased in 1986 by Mr. Charles Sonnier, when it was redesigned to be used as an office for his law practice. The building was named Magdalen Centre, and has housed a variety of businesses and professionals within its office space. This building was the “embryo” of a sort to the restoration of Downtown Abbeville and to the creation of Magdalen Place.

In 1994, Magdalen Place Reception Center was constructed next door, in a massive renovation that cost upwards of a million dollars. The business has been conducted ever since by Mr. Sonnier’s wife, Mary Ellen Sonnier and their son, Chuck Sonnier.
