A wedding is more than the beautiful day you planned.

I recently came across a situation where a couple had been married for years, and when they decided to buy land or a house together, the lawyer asked them a simple question:

“Where is your marriage certificate?”

They didn’t have it.

Because they couldn’t provide proof of their marriage, the property transaction had to be treated as two individuals buying the property not as a legally documented married couple.

This is why, as wedding planners, we always encourage couples to think beyond the wedding day.

Plan the décor. Plan the outfits. Plan the reception. Enjoy every beautiful moment but please don’t forget the legal side of your marriage.

Your wedding memories are important, but so are your documents.

Get married. Get registered. Keep your certificate safe.

The couples who choose to plan every detail of their own wedding sometimes miss the very thing they spent months preparing for the experience of being present in it.

They become the planners, the problem-solvers, the decision-makers, the ones checking timelines, vendors, décor, guests and every little detail.

So when the day finally arrives, instead of soaking it all in, they are busy making sure everything goes right.

Your wedding should not be something you simply pass through after spending months planning it.

It should be a day you remember feeling the laughter, the tears, the nerves, the music, the room, the people you love and, most importantly, the moment you finally get to say, “We did it.”

Plan your wedding. But do not let planning take you away from experiencing it.

Every vendor she visited told her the same thing: “White is traditional.”

So when she chose to wear blue instead, everyone expected the unexpected.

The moment she walked into church, every head turned. The surprise on people’s faces said everything. And then, her mother cried.

Not because she looked different, but because she looked like her.

The truth is, white was never the traditional wedding colour in Uganda. Somewhere along the way, we simply made it a habit.

And sometimes, the most beautiful weddings are the ones that dare to question the habits we’ve inherited.

Tradition is worth honouring but it’s also worth understanding.

Wedding planning is not just about choosing flowers, colours, venues, and menus.

It’s about making hundreds of little decisions while trying to protect the one big thing that matters how you want to feel on your wedding day.

Because when the music ends, the flowers are gone, and the guests have gone home, what stays with you is the memory of how the day felt.

That’s why good wedding planning isn’t about making everything look perfect. It’s about making sure every detail has a purpose, every decision feels like you, and you get to enjoy your own wedding instead of managing it.

Your wedding should be an experience, not a project you survived.

Shifts make people uncomfortable.

Sometimes it isn’t your wedding, your engagement or your happiness that makes people pull away.

It’s what your joy reminds them of. Unanswered prayers, delayed dreams, seasons of waiting, difficult transitions or a chapter of life they’re still hoping to reach.

As wedding planners, we witness this often. Every celebration is beautiful but every guest walks into that room carrying a different story.

Some are celebrating with you wholeheartedly, while others are quietly fighting battles you’ll never know about.

So celebrate your love with gratitude, not guilt. Be kind, be humble and remember that everyone is on a different journey.

Your season is not a reminder that someone else has failed it is simply proof that every story unfolds in its own time.

May we learn to celebrate others while trusting that our own chapter will come when it’s meant to.

“The venue is ugly.”

I hear that a lot.

But sometimes, the venue isn’t the problem.

The problem is the décor stylist.

A venue doesn’t decorate itself. It waits for someone with vision to bring it to life. The flowers, the lighting, the draping, the layout, the tiny details that make people stop and stare—they don’t happen by accident.

It breaks my heart when a beautiful venue gets blamed for work it never did.

Before you write off a venue, ask who styled it.

Because the difference between “this place is ordinary” and “wow, I can’t believe this is the same venue” is often the person behind the décor.

Choose your stylist as carefully as you choose your venue. One can completely transform the other.

Two months before their wedding day, they sat down together and handwrote a personal letter to every single guest.

Each letter held a special memory they had shared with that guest—a trip they took together, a kind gesture they would never forget, a funny moment, or simply the impact that person had on their journey.

It wasn’t just a wedding favor. It was a heartfelt reminder that every guest wasn’t there by chance—they were part of the couple’s story

Some details don’t just make a wedding beautiful; they make it unforgettable.
