📢 Announcement!!!!
African Arty is pleased to invite you to the first solo show of the artist Dieudonne Djiela Kamgang, taking place in our new art gallery space in Casablanca.
Entitled "The Children's Republic," Dieudonne's solo show is the fruit of over a year's research and marks a turning point in the artist's promising career.
Introduction:
"The Children's Republic" explores the theme of a future where children become the new leaders of a society, overcoming the difficulties of the past.
The concept is inspired by a film of the same name by Guinean filmmaker Flora Gomez, in which children are encouraged to create their own republic after the loss of their parents. The exhibition features works illustrating children who decide to face challenges by creating a futuristic republic. The project emphasises the idea of community and play, highlighting the ability of children to interact regardless of their social or ethnic background. The use of specific textiles, such as Ndop fabric and Western collars, seems to be a way of expressing this fusion of cultures and underlining cultural pride.
"The Children's Republic" aims to encourage the viewer to adopt a "Sankofa" model, inviting a return to roots and culture for a better understanding of self and community. The exhibition seeks to provoke reflection on resilience, community, and cultural pride, encouraging viewers to reconnect with their origins to better understand their identity.
