The 2025 Taipei International Blues Bash was a great success! Many thanks to all who performed or contributed (Sponsors were Eiger Law & Bai Win Antiques). Here are some photos of Yoshinobu Ozaki's performance to kick off the all-day Blues.
Yoshi is a historian, archivist, an amazing musician, and master of the resonator guitar, a foundational instrument in early Folk, Delta, and Acoustic Blues. In the early days, Delta juke joints had no electricity. Blues artists struggled to be heard over the crowd—especially as the partying got louder. The resonator guitar was developed as a solution, using mechanical volume instead of microphones or amps. This unique acoustic guitar uses metal cones—called resonators—in place of (or in addition to) the traditional wooden soundboard to amplify its sound.
The result? An unmistakable voice: loud, metallic, punchy, and richly sustaining. Its distinctive tone became iconic in blues, roots, and early rock styles—and Yoshi and Jack are highly skilled on this historic instrument. (Photos by Paul Chang)
