Helena Development Corporation was legally incorporated in the year 2000. The Corporation is registered as a “Non-Profit” organization that was created to acquire and develop the St. Helena Community ECO PARK Project. Located in the bustling community of St. Helena Village, Piarco; the Eco Park is a 10.5-acre parcel of land that was reclaimed through the diversion of the Caroni River. In order to
prepare the site for the project, over 5000 truck loads of landfill was used to elevate the land and in some areas by as much as eight (8) feet. The land is exclusively retained and overseen by the St. The Directors of the Corporation continuously lobby with both Government and the Private Sector in a bid to develop and enhance the facilities at the Eco Park. Through these efforts, the Park has been equipped with a 550M walking track; a band stand; a paved courtyard; proper restroom facilities; exercise equipment and a state-of-the-art lighting system. The community of St. Helena continues to benefit enormously from the Park. On a day-to-day basis, residents partake and enjoy the facility while they engage in recreational and other social activities. The Park also promotes and plays host to all cultural events by encouraging the community to join in the various celebrations such as Carnival, Independence Day, Divali, and Christmas. Today’s society is being deprived of “green spaces” and the St. Helena Development Corporation is working towards promoting a healthy lifestyle and the conservation of natural habitats. Nevertheless, the Eco Park project is far from completion. The vision for this facility involves the creation of recreational facilities that would promote the holistic development of individuals within St. Helena Village and its wider communities. In the future, the St. Helena Development Corporation will continue to collaborate with various organizations to develop the Eco Park project and to ensure that it becomes a model facility for generations to follow.
