John Edwards is a double bassist and improviser widely regarded as a true virtuoso, whose staggering range of techniques and boundless musical imagination have redefined the possibilities of the instrument and dramatically expanded its role in contemporary music.
Perpetually in demand, he has been a central figure in London’s improvised music scene since his early performances with Lol Coxhill and Maggie Nichols. Over the years, he has collaborated with a vast range of leading figures in improvised and experimental music, including Evan Parker, Roscoe Mitchell, Sunny Murray, Derek Bailey, Joe McPhee, Peter Brötzmann, Lol Coxhill, Louis Moholo, Mulatu Astatke, Jonny Greenwood, and many others. He has appeared on more than 250 recordings alongside a wide spectrum of improvising musicians.
Born in Hanoi into a musically rooted family, Duy Luong first trained as a classical guitarist before turning to the bass, which became his main instrument. In 2014, he began studying jazz at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen with Robert Landfermann and Stefan Rademacher, developing a versatile approach on both double bass and electric bass.
Since then, he has been involved in numerous projects across jazz, electronic, and experimental music, working as both a composer and performer in live and studio settings. He has collaborated with a wide range of international artists, including Elliott Sharp, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Ryan Carniaux, Duarte Ventura, and many others. In 2022, he participated in the Improvisers in Residence program at the Moers Festival alongside Kevin Shea and Matt Mottel.
Fabian Neubauer is a musician, multi-instrumentalist, and improviser working internationally at the intersection of experimental music, free jazz, noise, electroacoustic music, and performative practices. He works in constantly shifting setups composed of various acoustic and electronic configurations. His practice combines free improvisation with conceptual approaches and understands music as an open, situational process.
