With an aim to promote silk-related businesses, the Northeastern provinces of Thailand comprising of Roi-et, Khon Kaen, Mahasarakham and Kalasin have formulated a joint development strategy for the silk industry (2014-2017). The strategy aims to promote business network and cooperation in the silk sector along the value chain through a series of events implemented in cooperation with relevant Thai
land’s government agencies in Khon Kaen province. As part of this initiative, an International Silk Seminar was organized in 2013 by the Mekong Institute (MI) in collaboration with the Khon Kaen Provincial Government on the theme “Mekong Silk Road1”. The seminar focused on important issues related to the silk supply-chain management in ASEAN and export markets. A business-to-business (B2B) matching event was also organized as part of the seminar. One of the key recommendations of the seminar was the formation of the ASEAN Silk Association. With the success of the seminar in 2013, the Khon Kaen Provincial Government has proposed to organize the event on annual basis by widening the scope to include participants from the ASEAN region. The Khon Kaen Provincial Government in association with the Mekong Institute (MI) is organizing the International Seminar Cum Business Matching on Silk Development from 12 to 13 September 2014 in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. The seminar aims to promote business networks in the ASEAN, facilitate business and trade among silk sellers, buyers and intermediaries in the ASEAN and beyond. The event will also provide e-networking platform for various players in the silk industry to identify their potential business partner through an e-directory comprising of company profile, product catalogue, etc. of the participating companies.
