Statement from Juba Kizomba Social on the Viral Cattle Camp Dance Video.
Juba Kizomba Social would like to address the recent viral video featuring members of our team performing the Banga menโs dance style at a cattle camp in South Sudan. We appreciate the attention the video has received. However, we have also observed comments and reactions suggesting that the content disrespects or misrepresents South Sudanese culture.
We would like to clarify the context and purpose of the project.The clip currently circulating online is not the official production. It is a behind-the-scenes moment that was shared independently and taken out of context. As a result, many people have formed opinions without seeing the complete project or understanding its intended message.
The original production was created to promote South Sudan, celebrate its rich cultural heritage, and showcase the beauty of our country ahead of the international cultural festival organized by Juba Kizomba Social in November last year ( Alabu Kizomba Festival โ AKF 2025).
The festival welcomed visitors from different countries who came to Juba to experience our traditions, connect with our communities, and celebrate cultural exchange. Our objective was to highlight South Sudanโs cultural diversity, traditional dances, natural beauty, and the hospitality of its people. Through this project, we sought to present South Sudan as a peaceful, welcoming, and vibrant destination where visitors can experience authentic culture and meaningful connections.
The Banga dance featured in the behind-the-scenes clip is a creative dance expression originating from Angola and inspired by Angolan cultural identity. Its inclusion was never intended to mock, disrespect, or undermine South Sudanese traditions. Rather, it reflects our commitment to cultural exchange while continuing to honor, preserve, and promote our own heritage.
We respectfully encourage the public to view the official final video before drawing conclusions.
The complete production accurately reflects the projectโs purpose and celebrates the richness of South Sudanese culture, the beauty of our people, and the uniqueness of our country.
We remain proud of South Sudan and committed to using art, music, and dance as powerful tools for cultural preservation, unity, and international promotion.
