Workshop: How to Perceive a City? ✦ a playful documentary exploration
Let’s slow down, observe, and listen to Bratislava intentionally, accidentally, immersively. The workshop invites you into presence, stillness, and patience, in resistance to the chaotic pace of everyday life and information overload.
During the two days of the workshop, through sound and image, we will explore the different layers through which a place reveals itself, and we will each ask: “How does the city feel?”. We will pay attention to the city’s rhythms, atmospheres, silences, textures, movements, and imperfections.
Our methodology will follow four simple steps: PERCEIVE / RECORD / REFLECT / ASSEMBLE. We will begin by observing and listening without recording, experiencing the space before trying to capture it. We will then collect visual and sonic fragments of the city, reflect on what we have encountered, and assemble these fragments together.
We will turn these fragments into a collective audiovisual installation, resembling a sensory archive of our encounters with the city. The installation will be opened to the public on 2 September, alongside the presentation of Yibai’s residency project, Homing Beacon.
No previous experience is required, but lots of creative curiosity.
The workshop is open to anyone interested in sound, documentary, moving image, or simply discovering new ways of experiencing their surroundings.
