Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society - SIFAS Kala Samskriti Lakshanam - "Art Characterises Civilisation"
www.sifas.org The Society began humbly in 1949 with only 12 members.

Today, it has a Principal, a Vice-Principal, 28 highly qualified full-time tutors, over 2000 members and students.

​Developing and sustaining that curriculum has by far been one of the greatest challenges for the Society, but one that has yielded many benefits. It has fostered homegrown talents and created an awareness and understanding of the Indian cultural heritage, which is particularly valuable in the multi-ethnic Singapore.

We are delighted to welcome Guru Gopika Vasanth to the SIFAS family.

An accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, educator, choreographer and Nattuvangam practitioner, Guru Gopika is trained at the prestigious Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai, and holds a Master’s in Bharatanatyam from Annamalai University. With over five years of teaching experience, she brings a strong grounding in the Kalakshetra style, along with expertise in Abhinaya, Nattuvangam, choreography and dance theory.

Having performed across India and internationally, Guru Gopika brings with her rich performance experience, strong technical training and a deep commitment to nurturing the next generation of dancers.

We look forward to her journey with SIFAS and to the knowledge, artistry and experience she will share with our students and community.

SIFAS is delighted to share the participation of our tutors, Guru Shibani Roy and Guru Supriyo Banerjee, in Abahani – The Call of the Divine, a special Mahalaya presentation organised by the Bengali Association of Singapore.

Featuring the iconic songs of Mahishasura Mardini, Abahani is a musical narration of faith, devotion and new beginnings, bringing alive the spirit and significance of Mahalaya.

The presentation features Guru Shibani Roy as Musical Mentor and performer, alongside her students, with Guru Supriyo Banerjee accompanying on the tabla.

We are proud to see our Gurus and students contributing their artistry to this meaningful cultural presentation.

Following their wonderful performance at Swaranjali: Remembering Pt. Rajan Mishra, it was a pleasure to host these distinguished artistes at our new campus and share a glimpse of SIFAS’ home for Indian classical arts.

We were honoured to be part of PA Cares @ President’s Challenge 2026 at Bedok Town Square, where SIFAS Productions presented two Bharatanatyam performances by students of Guru K. H. Haritha as part of this meaningful community celebration.

Our dancers had the special opportunity to perform in the presence of President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, who graced the occasion.

It was a memorable experience for our performers to share the grace, rhythm and beauty of Indian classical dance on this platform, celebrating culture, community and inclusivity.

An evening where melody, rhythm and artistry came together beautifully. 🎻

Sruthi Laya Sangeetha Vaibhavam concluded tonight with a captivating Carnatic classical performance by Nagai R. Muralidharan, accompanied by Dr. D. Badrinarayanan on Violin, Guru Kallidaikurichi S. Sivakumar on Mridangam, and Muthu Subramanian on Kanjeera.

Our heartfelt thanks to the artistes for sharing their exceptional artistry with us, and to everyone who joined us at the SIFAS Amphitheatre and made the evening truly memorable.

We were honoured to welcome Her Excellency Charlotte Lobe, High Commissioner of South Africa to Singapore, together with a delegation from the South African High Commission, to the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society yesterday.

During their visit, the delegation toured the SIFAS premises and stepped into our classrooms to experience the richness and diversity of Indian classical arts firsthand. They interacted with our tutors and students, learnt more about different classical music and dance disciplines, tried their hand at Indian classical instruments, and even picked up a few dance movements along the way.

It was a wonderful morning of cultural exchange, meaningful conversations and shared appreciation for the arts.

We thank Her Excellency Charlotte Lobe and the delegation from the South African High Commission for visiting SIFAS.

An evening of stories and meaningful conversations. ❤️

On 19 September, we gathered at SIFAS Annexe for a special screening of A Singapore Dementia Story — an anthology of three short films exploring love, caregiving, hope and life with dementia in Singapore.

Through Another Go, Really and The Last Thread, audiences were invited to see dementia through different perspectives, before coming together for a thoughtful post-screening dialogue with members of the film team and Anuja Varaprasad, creator of Unsaid Stories.

The evening was a reminder that even when words and memories fade, connection, love and dignity can remain.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our partners Lien Foundation, Dementia Singapore and Unsaid Stories for helping create a space for stories, dialogue and greater awareness around dementia.
