SingaPoured SingaPoured, a website with you in mind. We want to bring you the very best in news, views, chat and thought from Singapore's vibrant wine scene.

Singapore's wine culture is gradually becoming more visible. It wasn't long ago that getting good wine required membership to a club - the rest of us bought from the supermarkets. There are chains emerging in town that offer good buys on the high street - Wine Connection and Straits Wine Company spring to mind - but they are still the minority. Behind closed doors there is web based revolution goi

ng on where wine is bought from outfits with no shop front, and because of this, they offer superb value. Corkage charges are often around $30 in Singapore so it's usually wise to get a slightly more expensive wine to take with you to a restaurant. This makes sense as the higher priced wines in Sg often give you more bang for your buck due to the high taxes and duties. Even with corkage, your wine is usually far better that what will be on offer for the same price. With that in mind, Champagne is Singapore's trump card - the price in restaurants and bars vary wildly but there are some brilliant offers in town. We went to The Scarlet Hotel the other day for a 'work meeting' and found the Laurent Perrier to be $80 ++! There are many more great deals in some unlikely places - we plan to unearth these for you. So, SingaPoured is here to help you pour better wines at better prices, with advice from those in the know - industry and punter alike. We are a community that likes to share - come and give it a try!

A few weeks ago, I had the honour of leading the Masterclass in Singapore — an afternoon dedicated to the Rise of the Bubbles, DOC discovery, and fresh perspectives 🥂✨

So, what did we sip and learn?

📍 Prosecco DOC spans 2 regions, 9 provinces, with roots tracing back to 1382 in Trieste.

🍇 Bianco = 85% Glera + 15% approved white grapes (Verdiso, Bianchetta Trevigiana, Perera, or Chardonnay)
Rosé = 85% Glera + 15% Pinot Nero.

🗓️ Vintage rules: Bianco = min. 85% grapes from one vintage to list the year. Rosé = 100% grapes from one vintage — must show the year on the label.

💫 Comes in Spumante (sparkling), Frizzante (lightly sparkling), and the rare Tranquillo (still).

🛁 Made via the Martinotti (tank) method — fresh, vibrant, and unmistakably Prosecco.

🥂 Popular styles? Brut (6–12 g/L) & Extra Dry (12–17 g/L) of residual sugar.

🍾 We tasted 7 wines—5 Bianco, 2 Rosato—mostly from Treviso, Veneto. Each one a delicious expression of place.
1. La Tordera ( ) Saomi Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut
2. Viticoltori ( ) Ponte n Prosecco DOC Treviso Extra Dry
3. Villa Sandi ( ) Il Fresco Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut
4. Val d’Oca ( ) Blu Prosecco DOC Extra Dry Millesimato 2021
5. Perlino Sandiliano ( ) Prosecco DOC Extra Dry
6. La Tordera Tor Sè Brut Prosecco DOC Rosé Treviso Millesimato 2024
7. Viticoltori Ponte n Prosecco DOC Rosé Millesimato 2024

Grazie mille to and for the opportunity. Here's to more sparkling conversations ahead! 🍾

Exploring Pinot Grigio delle Venezie: The Perfect Southeast Asian Pour

Affordable, consistent, and refreshingly fruity - Pinot Grigio delle Venezie should be a go-to for restaurants and resorts across Southeast Asia. But did you know there is more than just the classic crisp white? Let’s uncork the diverse styles of delle Venezie!

The sparkling styles:
From sunshine gold to pale hues with fine bubbles, Frizzante (lightly sparkling) offers a touch of sweetness, perfect for spicy dishes. Meanwhile, Spumante (fully sparkling) is drier, ideal for sipping by the beach, as an aperitivo, or a good match with dim sum, sushi and sashimi.

The Truth About Bianco:
Far from forgettable, today’s Pinot Grigio bianco is bright, textured, and fruity, with refreshing acidity. Its versatility makes it a star alongside sushi and seafood, Hainanese chicken rice, and light Mediterranean fare.

Skin-Macerated Elegance:
A short skin maceration creates delicate Ramato, a pink-toned rosé with hints of red berries. A longer maceration gives a deep copper-orange hue, bringing tropical fruits, white florals, and a whisper of spice. These styles pair beautifully with stewed meats, richly spiced dishes like nasi-lemak, and some dim sum dishes.

Whatever your palate craves, there is a Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie wine to match! So, why wait? Grab a bottle and explore the spectrum of flavours today with the food suggestions.

“You may have selected the wrong grape for your post.”

Many assume that Pinot Grigio is pale yellow or green because of its common wine hues—but that could not be further from the truth. Pinot Grigio literally translates to Grey Pinot, a nod to its greyish-pink skins when fully ripened.

Originally a colour mutation of Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio’s roots trace back to Burgundy, France, with its first documented Italian plantings in Piemonte’s provinces of Alessandria and Cuneo during the early 19th century. Fast forward to today, the Delle Venezie DOC dominates Italy’s Pinot Grigio production, covering 27,000+ hectares across 11 provinces in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, and Trentino. This appellation produces 1.63 million hectoliters of Pinot Grigio annually, with 95% exported worldwide.

While not native to Italy, Pinot Grigio thrives in the Triveneto area, adapting effortlessly to different soils. Its berries, packed tightly like a pinecone, ripen early and yield generously—though they remain susceptible to noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). Its easy-growing nature allows for multiple styles: sparkling, still white, rosato (locally known as ramato), and skin-macerated textured wines.

Depending on maceration time, Pinot Grigio wines range from pale sunshine yellow to deep orange, light pink to salmon. Expect delicate florals, bright citrus, ripe stone fruit, and subtle spice, all balanced by vibrant acidity and a hint of salinity. Whether you are craving a fresh and fruity summer sip, a structured ramato for light meat, or a macerated expression for a bold gastronomic pairing—there is a Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio for everyone.

So yes, this is the correct image of a Pinot Grigio grape bunch! A grey-pink skinned mutation of Pinot Noir, born in France but thriving in Northeastern Italy across the Tre Venezie area, delivering beautifully diverse wines from a single variety.

delle Venezie DOC is a pinot grigio grape focused denomination, requiring at least 85% of pinot grigio for it to label as such. It encompass a large geographical area encompassing the whole of , , and Venezia Giulia.

Today's wine market is putting a lot emphasis on small denomination, resulting in a "premiumization through scarcity". While this gives great value to the wineries, we must not neglect the effect of climate change leaving wineries with little planting options.

Delle Venezie is special in this regard because its large land mass extends from the low plains close to Adriatic sea to the hilly areas of the Prealps. This creates buffer areas where wineries can choose the best combination of vineyards in order to deliver the consistent quality that the market requires.

The tasting of the eight Pinot grigio from the 2024 vintage highlighted the freshness that pinot grigio can deliver in the mouth and expressive aromatic notes including yellow flowers, melons, guava and touch of tropical notes. A marked departure from the yesteryears of neutral white wine.

Wines Tasted:
1. Serena Wines 1881 Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
2. Bosco del Merlo Pinot Grigio Ramato Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
3. Borgo Molino Vigne&Vini Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
4. Bottega del Prosecco Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
5. Ca' di Rajo WinesPinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
6. Farina Wines Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
7. Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024
8. Gruppo Caviro Terre dei Forti, Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie D.O.C. 2024

These are possible because of the many factors that can be managed by the winemakers.

Its affordable price tag, consistent quality and fruity characteristics make Pinot Grigio delle Venezie an ideal beverage for the Southeast Asia region, particularly for both restaurant and resort establishments.
