New Zealand Opera are storytellers, advancing the national conversation by making great opera.

Since the company’s incorporation in 1995, New Zealand Opera has presented more than 500 stage, touring, festival and concert performances to a combined audience of more than 800,000.

By telling stories through the power of the human singing voice, New Zealand Opera exists to serve our communities, our artists, and our artform, ensuring a vibrant and sustainable presence for opera in New Zealand.

Opera Asia Pacific warmly congratulates all winners, finalists and participants of the 2nd Sumi Jo International Singing Competition (), held at Château de La Ferté-Imbault () in France.

This result is especially meaningful to us because Second Prize winner was selected through our Singapore Asia Preselection earlier this year.

From the moment we first heard him, we knew he was a very special artist. Beyond his remarkable voice and musicality, Seungho is humble, sincere, disciplined and kind. He is a true role model, especially to the asian community, who shows that excellence can go hand in hand with hardwork and humility.

We are deeply grateful that the Singapore Preselection could play a part in his journey and help open this opportunity. Supporting young artists in moments like this is exactly why Opera Asia Pacific exists.

Wishing Maestra Sumi Jo, the distinguished jury, and every outstanding singer the very best for the competition ahead.

A very special **TOI TOI TOI** to **Hengyue Qiu** and **Seungho Yoo**, who continue from our Singapore Asia Preselection. We are immensely proud to see them take this next step and carry the spirit of our region with them.

Opera Asia Pacific is deeply grateful to Maestra Sumi Jo and the **Sumi Jo International Singing Competition** for this meaningful collaboration and for creating such an important platform for young singers from across the world. Our partnership is a celebration of artistry, courage and cultural pride values Maestra Sumi Jo has embodied throughout her extraordinary career.

✨OPERA ASIA INAUGURAL SUMMIT: Towards a shared operatic future🌟 📅 24 April 2026 spring marks the opening of Opera Asia’s first closed-door Opera Summit, bringing together industry leaders from across the region for open dialogue and shared vision.

Over the following two days, Opera Asia will host additional activities focused on collaboration, talent development, and reimagining how opera can connect with new audiences. Together, it promotes dialogue and exchange to support Asia’s growing role in shaping the future of global opera.
