One of the best compliments we get consistently from our guest DJs is how wonderful our crowd is - and Ogazón was no exception. As she stepped off the decks, the excitement twinkled in her eyes as she gushed about the dance floor.

Last we saw the starlings, they had trekked across a barren planet towards an oasis where they found themselves in a celebration, and they happily immersed into the vibrant scene. Cajoling and dancing, they lost track of time, deeply hypnotised by the sonic seasonings they had discovered.

But as days turned into weeks and weeks into months, their trusty ship worried they may forget their roots.

In speedy haste, the starship extracted the starlings from their celebration, preparing them for the next adventure back home…

For our next edition of Celestial Seasonings we are delighted to feature the debut of Luxembourg-born, Berlin-based vinyl queen Ogazón for a night of carefully curated house and techno.

And just as the starship rallies the starlings to their roots, so do we journey back to where our musical obsessions started, with old school hip hop in the Hall, contrasting the dance music of the Floor.

Why Hip-Hop?

While Sivilian Affairs is affiliated with dance music, our co-founders have a music history steeped in rap and hip-hop.

Sivanesh grew up deeply entrenched in hip-hop’s groove, rhythm and rhymes. When he started DJing, this was his sound, and he even started a party series dedicated to it, called Promiscuous.

A world away, Miss Lil spent much of her youth bouncing between the West and East of the US, her early music taste shaped by both the commercial and underground sounds of the two coasts.

When they curated the musical journey for their wedding, Sivanesh and Miss Lil both agreed a set of old-school gems would be perfect to enliven their guests and get the dance floor popping off. By special request, Roshan took the helm for the hip-hop section of their big day, and they realised how much they missed partying to these sounds. If you came up on this music too, this one is as much for you as it is for us.

So we’re giving it a proper room. In The Hall, Choice Cuts founder Drem and Roshan of Saturday Selects, in from Kuala Lumpur, take on a night of golden era hip-hop, the 90s and early 2000s cuts that raised us.

Rasa is one of the few clubs in Singapore with a two-room setup, so we decided to make the most of it with contrasted programming. House and techno on The Floor, golden era hip-hop in The Hall.

Whether you’re a lover of dance or a lover of rap, we’ve got you covered this Friday at Rasa.

A few words about long time local legend Dre Reyes from our co-founder sivanesh. from singapore.:

“I’ve watched Drem play more times than I can count, and every time it’s the same feeling. You don’t just hear the music, you feel the soul in it.

Drem is behind the iconic Choice Cuts pizzeria and record store in Joo Chiat, and one of the few DJs in Singapore who plays like the record means something to him. He moves through funk, soul, and Golden Era hip-hop with a touch that’s getting rarer every year. Nothing rushed, nothing for show, just deep selection and hands that know exactly what they’re doing.”
