Did you know that Snap!’s 1990 dancefloor smash "Ooops Up" is a direct descendant of pure late-70s P-Funk?
The track is an interpolation and reimagining of The Gap Band’s 1979 funk anthem "I Don’t Believe You Want to Get Up and Dance (Oops!)". The producers took The Gap Bands' iconic call-and-response chant—"Oops up side your head, I say oops up side your head"—and fused it with pounding early-90s breakbeats and hip-house energy.
Because the hook is so integral, the Wilson brothers and their co-writers received full songwriting credits on the release. It’s one of the sharpest examples of how early-90s European dance culture paid direct homage to classic American funk.
