We caught up with Lise Galskov one of the judges for the Nordic Championships 2026 to hear her thoughts, expectations, and favourite moments. Warm welcome to this years NC Lise! 💫

You are a part of the judges team for the Nordic Championships 2026, what made you accept the offer to judge?
I always find it exciting and fun to be a part of big competitions and when I was asked about the Nordic, there was just no doubt in my mind, I said thank you right away!

Which part of the competition are you personally looking forward to the most?
Every part in the competition is like art with the horse, which for me means they are all unique to watch … and judge!

In your opinion, what are the things that make a championship like this unforgettable?
That we all care for the same - the Icelandic horse. The great atmosphere, the beautiful horses and the good riders.

How do you stay focused during long days of judging?
I eat and drink, coffee with milk and water! And then, good horses and good riding helps stay tuned.

If you could choose, which judging booth is your favourite (booth 1-5), and why?
The box in the middle has the best view…

What is your favourite snack while judging?
Nuts, chocolate, liquorice, fruit etc

You are a part of the judges team for the Nordic Championships 2026, what made you accept the offer to judge?

Thank you for having asked me. For that I am very grateful.
I really like to judge the NC. Nice opportunity to see good horses. There is always something special and a good atmosphere on this occasion. It’s a good opportunity to meet old friends. Furthermore, it’s a very good tradition to meet horse people from the other Nordic countries. This is an old tradition and tradition should be taken care of. Very important. It means a lot to many people.

Which part of the competition are you personally looking forward to the most?
The whole part.

In your opinion, what are the things that make a championship like this unforgettable?
The horses

How do you stay focused during long days of judging?
Looking at horses and judging. Seeing every detail and seeing it as a whole is my passion and when it is about horses it is no problem to stay focused. But of course it’s wise to have a good night’s sleep before. And make sure to have a good atmosphere around the whole scenario.

If you could choose, which judging booth is your favourite (booth 1-5), and why?
Each booth has its own advantages and disadvantages - maybe the one in the middle is the one to prefer no matter which discipline?

What is your favourite snack while judging?
A good warm coffee and a “smørgoose” - (the Swedish expression for a sandwich) with cheese and butter. 😁

We’re happy to introduce another of our judges for the Nordic Championships 2026 – Kia Holmquist! 🇸🇪

Please give Kia a warm welcome and take a moment to get to know her a little better.

You are a part of the judges team for the Nordic Championships 2026, what made you accept the offer to judge?

It’s an honour and a privilege to get the chance to judge an international championship, so it was my pleasure to say yes.

Which part of the competition are you personally looking forward to the most?

I am actually looking forward to it all. To judge the sports part, to watch GK and to spend some nice time together with good colleagues.

In your opinion, what are the things that make a championship like this unforgettable?

Good shows on the track and great atmosphere. And some nice weather hopefully.

How do you stay focused during long days of judging?

At least 8 hours of sleep during the night and avoiding sugar during the day.

If you could choose, which judging booth is your favourite (booth 1–5), and why?

I like 2–4, there you have a better view over the whole track, compared with the corner booths.

What is your favourite snack while judging?

Cold mineral water
