Multi-talented artist Phil Zimmerman, a singer-songwriter, stand-up comedian, actor, and Buddhist peace activist, has today released his electrifying new single, ‘Lines in the Sky’, a track described as “The S*x Pistols meets The Rolling Stones, released in support of a demonstration against geo engineering in London’s Hyde Park which sees Phil perform the song for the first time.
The video features Zimmerman performing dressed as a pigeon, which harks back to his legendary anarchic ‘pigeonman’ comedy act of the early noughties. And the pigeon can also be seen in the spectacular official music video for the song… Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/xaW7kQhHZrY
Originally written in 2010, Lines In The Sky tackles the controversial topic of geo-engineering and chemtrails, inspired by Zimmerman’s awakening to the covert spraying of chemicals from planes, a subject now sparking global debate as governments acknowledge plans to manipulate the atmosphere.
Zimmerman, a seasoned performer with a diverse career, has been a vocal advocate for truth through his art. “I was a singer-songwriter before I became a comedian or an actor,” Zimmerman shares. “After years in various bands that didn’t work out, I decided to go solo with a backing band to have more creative freedom.” His journey as an artist has been marked by a struggle to unify his talents, which he achieved by blending music and comedy in innovative shows like ‘Killing Granny’, a bold critique of the covid narrative, that he toured for two years. This fusion of mediums paved the way for his latest musical endeavours.
‘Lines in the Sky’ was recorded at Famous Times Studio in Hackney, London, and produced by Sean Read. The track is part of Zimmerman’s upcoming album, ‘Can You Touch, Can You Feel’, set for release later in 2025. The album amounts to a unique collaboration, featuring songs written with four different songwriting partners over 27 years, showcasing Zimmerman’s depth and versatility as an artist.
Zimmerman’s activism has often led to censorship. He was a target for cancel culture when the woke fundamentalists of Brighton Fringe pulled his sequel to Killing Granny ‘Bill Gates KiIled My Hamster’ a week before it was due to premiere in May 2022. So it’s no surprise that Zimmerman has been labelled a conspiracy theorist, yet he stands by his work, noting that many of his claims, including those about geo-engineering, have been validated over time. “I wrote ‘Lines in the Sky’ in 2010 when it was way ahead of its time,” he says. “Now, its time has come.”
Beyond music, Zimmerman’s acting career is thriving. He will appear in two major 2025 cinema releases: the post-apocalyptic sci-fi ‘Afterburn’, alongside Dave Bautista and Samuel L. Jackson, and ‘Bad Day at the Office’, with John Hannah and Radha Mitchell. He also had a cameo in the new season of BBC’s ‘Silent Witness’ which premiered in January 2025. His most notable role to date was as a main villain in Tim Burton’s 2019 live-action ‘Dumbo’, sharing scenes with Danny DeVito and Colin Farrell.
Zimmerman’s new album paves the way for an exciting live project which will be a further fusion of music, comedy activism and visual art, titled Phil Zimmerman and The Freedom Flowers, which denotes the 9 piece backing band he is in the process of putting together.
Lines in the sky follows the release of his last single, Freedom Flower, in October 2024, another powerful anthem. His previous work includes the 2018 single ‘Suspicion’, accompanied by a comedy video shot in Morocco’s Sahara Desert, which he directed and produced (https://youtu.be/tgj9ueVKYn8), and a cover of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood song, the Power of Love, which received a thumbs up from the writer, Holly Johnson, who said of Phil’s version: “I don’t normally comment on cover versions of my songs as it’s hard for me to be objective, but he’s obviously been very respectful to the song which is a relief.”
Reflecting on his creative journey, Zimmerman credits music festivals like Glastonbury, where he ran a Buddhist inspiration and peace event for a decade, for reigniting his passion for music. “I love music too much to give up,” he says. “I feel my purpose is to use performance art to entertain, inspire and empower people and to help awaken us to our limitless power. That is true freedom.”
