What happens to photography when images no longer need the world in order to exist?

The exhibition is part of the second edition of AIM Photography Forum, which examines the shifting position of the photographic image within contemporary culture, at a moment when an increasing number of images no longer have a correspondent in physical reality.

The exhibition can be visited throughout the forum, 17–27 September, at Scânteia+.

After more than three months on view and over 1,200 visitors, the show THE PICTURE will close on September 5.

To mark the final day of the exhibition, we will host a guided tour starting at 6 PM.

If you haven’t had the chance to visit yet, the exhibition remains open Thursday–Saturday, from 2 PM to 6 PM. On Saturday, September 5, we will stay open until 8 PM.

What happens to photography when images no longer need the world in order to exist?

The second edition of AIM Photography Forum examines the shifting position of the photographic image within contemporary culture, at a moment when an increasing number of images no longer have a correspondent in physical reality.

Under the title The Image Left Reality Behind, the ten-day programme brings together artistic practice and perspectives from technology, philosophy, anthropology and video games to address the changing relationship between images, reality and representation.

The programme unfolds across three interconnected sections: a group exhibition featuring 16 artists, a series of 8 panel discussions bringing together voices from art and other fields shaping contemporary image culture, and a mentorship programme for 10 emerging artists, developed in collaboration with three galleries in Bucharest.
