Elon Musk unveils Tesla robot that would do hard work for humans

“A billionaire inventor plans to build a line of artificially intelligent robots that could replace humans as physical labourers in the future.

What could go wrong?

Elon Musk announced on Thursday that he’s working on a humanoid robot at Tesla, which he said could have a “profound” impact on the economy in the future.

“It’s basically going to start dealing with work that is boring, repetitive and dangerous,” Musk said at Tesla’s Ai Day event on Thursday night.

The so-called Tesla Bot will stand five feet eight inches, weigh 125 pounds, and move at roughly eight kilometres per hour, which is the equivalent of a brisk walk. Each one will be capable of lifting up to 45 pounds, and will feature a display screen in place of its face — if Musk can make it a reality.

He added that the robot would be meant for doing jobs that people “least like to do,” and that physical labour would eventually become a “choice” for humans.”

Musk is planning to have a prototype of his AI-driven Tesla Bot ready in 2022.

Mapa interativo mostra zonas de Portugal em risco com subida dos oceanos

Um estudo divulgado esta terça-feira prevê que mesmo com cortes drásticos das emissões poluentes a subida do nível das águas a partir de 2050 ponha em risco 300 milhões de pessoas A Ásia será a zona mais afetada; em Portugal, estuário do Tejo e do Sado, Ria Formosa, Aveiro e Figueira da Foz são as zonas mais "vermelhas".

A ideia é de que as estimativas até agora avançadas pecavam por defeito por não terem em conta realmente quantas pessoas vivem nas zonas inundáveis. É essa a explicação de um dos autores do estudo publicado esta terça-feira na revista científica Nature Communications, Benjamin Strauss: "As comunidades humanas concentram-se de forma desproporcionada nas zonas muito baixas da costa". Até agora, acreditava-se que só 65 milhões viviam nessas zonas; com base em dados mais precisos, o estudo aponta para 250 milhões, ou seja, quase o quádruplo.

A Ásia é indicada como o continente mais afetado, com primazia para seis países: China, Bangladesh, Índia, Vietname, Indonésia e Tailândia. É aí que reside a maioria dos que ficarão em risco com a subida do nível das águas causado pelo aquecimento global. Dos 300 milhões que se estima estarem em zona de risco de inundação em 2050, aproximadamente 237 milhões vivem nesses seis países. A China, com 93 milhões em perigo, é o país recordista.

Portugal, graças à sua longa costa, tem várias zonas de risco. No mapa interativo disponibilizado pelos autores do estudo em colaboração com a organização Climate Central, são várias as zonas "vermelhas" assinaladas: a de Aveiro, do estuário do Tejo (as Lezírias são uma vasta mancha rubra), do Sado, e a Ria Formosa. Aparentemente, nem a Madeira nem os Açores apresentam zonas de risco para 2050. Mas Benjamin Strauss chama a atenção para a necessidade de que governos e empresas aeroespaciais apresentem dados mais precisos sobre a elevação geográfica.
