Last Sunday I had the pleasure of capturing a gorgeous farm-to-table experience at the beautiful Quinta Vermelha de Alcaria.

The feast was prepared by my good friend Jonathan, a hugely talented private chef, and his assistant Sara. Roast lamb and turkey, crispy roast potatoes, and seasonal veggies were cooked in the Quinta's wood-fired oven and served alongside a vegan nut roast, fresh quinta salads, desserts, and much more. All homemade. And all created with fresh ingredients, from the farm and from local Algarve and Alentejo producers.

The Quinta is a hidden gem nestled away in the countryside village of Paderne. Every nook and cranny is packed with quirky charm and creative touches. Part of the Quinta is a bio farm home to animals, aromatic herb gardens, and an abundance of fruit and veg orchards. From aloe vera gel demos to essential oil distillation workshops, to guided farm tours, it’s the perfect place for off-the-beaten-path experiences away from the tourist bustle. You get to immerse yourself in nature, connect with the land, and learn about sustainable farming practices. Like how the team grows Aloe Vera on a medium scale for making soap, creams, and adding to smoothies. Or how they grow the most unusual herbs, like chocolate mint!

Quinta Vermelha da Alcaria will be opening officially very soon. They’ll offer an exciting lineup of experiences and activities to get involved in, so watch this space!
