Paris’ Galeries Lafayette Planning to Open on Lisbon’s Avenida da Liberdade.

Paris’ Galeries Lafayette will open in Lisbon by the end of the year. The Portuguese capital will become the second European city with a branch of the luxurious Parisian department store outside France, after Berlin. The location has already been chosen, and it will be on Avenida da Liberdade, occupying two currently-vacant buildings next to the Hard Rock Cafe by Restauradores Square. According to the i newspaper, the other possibility was Avenida da República uptown by Saldanha Square, but the City Council expressed preference for the old town district.
The decision was made a month ago, after a meeting between the French group and Lisbon mayor António Costa .

If the deal is finalized, the new store will occupy about 35,000 square meters and will involve an investment of 80 million euros. This would be the sixth Galeries Lafayette store in the world, with the latest being in Beijing, opened in 2013. The Galeries are known for offering various fashion, luxury, and beauty brands, as well as gourmet products.
