Another fantastic debate at the Warsaw English Debate Club this Friday.

Motion: “This House Believes That the Idea of Moral Progress is an Illusion.”

After a thoughtful and intense exchange of arguments, the result:

For the Motion: 10
Against the Motion: 14

A clear victory for the Opposition, who successfully challenged the notion that moral progress is merely an illusion and defended the idea that societies can, in fact, move forward ethically over time.

Huge credit to both sides for a nuanced and engaging discussion on a topic that cuts to the core of philosophy, history, and how we understand the world today.

Looking forward to next week’s debate.

These materials cover three core aspects:
• when motions are announced
• the structure of the debate
• the fundamental ground rules

The aim is to present a clear and accessible overview for both current and prospective participants.

We hope this provides a helpful insight into how our debates are conducted.
