Project Title:
OBRA
Design Concept Statement:
The word "obra" is a Spanish term that translates to "work" or "work of art" in English. It can refer to any creative or artistic work, including paintings, sculptures, literature, and other forms of creative expression. In addition, it can also be used to refer to a construction project or a piece of craftsmanship.
The morphology of Obra draws inspiration from the two iconic festivals of Masbate: the Rodeo Festival and the Lapay Bantigue Festival. These celebrations, pulsating with energy and tradition, have shaped not only the physical form of Obra but also its symbolic essence. The structure takes on the powerful and resilient form of a bull, symbolizing the strength and spirit of the city and its people. Inside, the design is inspired by the lapay, or seagull, signifying the opportunities and new beginnings that the cultural center offers to the locals.
Creating Obra, a cultural center that showcases the vibrant culture and arts of the province of Masbate Obra, revolves around the seamless integration of functionality, sustainability, and aesthetics. This vision, rooted in a deep appreciation for local culture and the desire to uplift the community, has guided every step of its creation.
