This island in the Philippines holds one of Earth's most mind-bending secrets β a lake inside an island, inside another lake, inside another island. π€―
Taal Volcano on Luzon Island sits in the middle of Lake Taal. On that volcanic island sits a crater lake called Main Crater Lake. And inside that crater lake? A tiny island called Vulcan Point.
That gives us five layers β an island in a lake, on an island in a lake, on an island. No other place on Earth does this quite like the Philippines.
Vulcan Point is actually the tip of a volcanic cone, formed after a massive eruption filled the crater with water. The same volcano last had a major eruption in January 2020, reminding the world it is still very much alive.
This is not a movie. This is real geography, sitting just 50 km south of Manila.
